History of Anekal.

Anekal history dates back to 4th century in which CHOLAS, HOYSALAS, VIJAYANAGAR KINGS, MYSORE KINGS & SUGUTOOR PALEGARS ruled. Even now we can see Stone inscriptions, viragallu & temples confirming their presence. Under their rule a lot of development works took place in all aspects. In 1603 Chikka Thimmegowda the Palegar constituted the Town limits & protected by constructing the fort surrounding the town.

Geographical Location

Anekal is located towards south of Bangalore in Karnataka. Being a Taluk head quarters, it is around 35 kms from Bangalore. On NH-7 from Bangalore take right turn at Chandapur to reach Anekal. It is surrounded by Tamilnadus hosur Taluk towards east, Hoskote Taluk, Kanakpura taluk towards west, Bangalore east taluk towards north, Tamilnadus Denkanikottai & hosur Taluks towards south.

Situated 2064 to 3118 ft above sea level, with very good climate conditions of temperature 15c to 33c. humidity of 63% to 83%. Average rainfall is 814.5 mm

Total area of 54,518 hectares. Total population according to 2001 census 2,98,961. In 1996 Bangalore city district was formed comprising of Bangalore North, Bangalore south & anekal taluks. Anekal town history dates back to around 2000 yrs of stone age. Because of Elephant size boulders, the name called ANEKAL ( Ane elephant, Kallu Stone) . Another version tells that an Elephant was cursed to Stone, thats why the name.

Anekal TMC has total 23 wards. Present council came to power on 20-02-2008. They have taken many steps to make the town clean & beautiful such as.

Anekal is a Taluk Headquarters. 40 Kms from Bangalore. It is a small town but a busy commercial centre.People here mainly speak kannada, telugu and tamil.The nearest tourist attraction(5kms) is Pearl Valley or Muthyalamaduvu(a picnic spot). It also has an ancient Vishnu temple supposed to have been built by Arjuna (a mythological character).
